Major Investment Anouncement by WIS
A £3.3m investment in WIS has been announced, creating 24 jobs and helping it to expand into fresh export markets.
Mallusk-based Williams Industrial Services works in a number of sectors, from aerospace to water treatment.
The firm was established in 1983 and currently employs more than 150 engineers and support staff.
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said such companies are "the backbone of the Northern Ireland economy".
"This investment, is a strong indication of the commitment of this indigenous company to further expand by diversifying into higher value-added products and services, and capitalising on lucrative export opportunities," she said.
'Commercial potential'
"The increased focus on competing internationally can help WIS become more profitable and reach its full commercial potential."
The money will go towards upgrading the firm's scientific research and development capabilities, and Mrs Foster said this was proof of its "dedication to ongoing product and process improvement".
"As WIS moves into more diverse external markets, it will be crucial that it continues to harness a culture of innovation in order to compete with its foreign counterparts," she said.
WIS plans an aggressive marketing campaign in developing markets, and joint managing director John Toner said the new jobs would be highly skilled and well-paid.
"The planned implementation of a scientific R&D function will enable us to explore new technologies, analyse innovative treatment processes and test prototype solutions that could have vast commercial potential," he said.
